What is a UK ETA?

The UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) is a mandatory pre-travel permission introduced in 2024 for travellers from visa-free countries visiting the United Kingdom. It is electronically linked to your passport and must be in place before you board your flight or Eurostar train to Britain.

Dutch citizens and other EU passport holders are not exempt — the ETA requirement applies regardless of nationality, as long as you are from a visa-free country. A single ETA is valid for 2 years with multiple trips, each lasting up to 6 months. It covers England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
